Band to Watch: Emily Hearn.

The 20-year-old Athens resident has been garnering much deserved attention. The singer/songwriter’s combination of hones lyrics and a rich voice make her one to watch. Her music is fun and catchy, though at times heartbreaking – think Brandi Carlile and Ingrid Michaelson. Listen to her in the car or outside on a sunny afternoon. She performs at various Athens venues, so be sure to check her out when she performs live.

 

Book to Read: “The Lover’s Dictionary” by David Levithan, $18.

“The Lover’s Dictionary” tells the story of a couple that meets online and attempts to overcome infidelity in 200 different word definitions. The words and definitions, which range from aberrant to ineffable, detail brief incidents and stories that occur during the couple’s relationship. It’s a new take on the novel and will surely make you think about relationships in general.

 

Bag to Buy: Burberry Embossed Check Heart-Shaped Cross Body Bag, $250.

Every girl’s staple, the cross body bag is big enough to fit all the essentials, but small enough not to feel bulky. You’re also less inclined to keep stuffing things into your bag. Burberry’s bright blue heart-shaped bag is the perfect spring accessory. It will stick out from the ever popular Coach and Dooney & Bourke bags. Not to mention, it’s super cute.

 

Beads:

Beads! Beads! Beads and more beads! It’s March and that means the biggest three-day party is coming up: Mardi Gras! Everyone recognizes the famous Mardi Gras beads, in green, purple and gold. But beads aren’t just in New Orleans; they’re everywhere. On handbags, dresses and jackets. Chanel’s Spring 2011 Couture collection featured stunning designs that used over 10 million beads! But if you’re in the Mardi Gras spirit, then don those beads and laissez les bon temps rouler!

Brooches add a touch of flair to any outfit. Just ask Dita von Teese. They’re sparkly and classy.You can find cute and affordable ones at Charlotte Russe or Forever 21. If you want something more unique, opt for a vintage one.

 

 

 

 

 

Brights: Nail Polish

Winter is on its way out, so put your dark colors back in the closet, and bring out the brights! Bright colors can be intimidating, so ease into them. Try brightly colored nail polishes to add a pop of color to your outfit. Bright greens, blues and reds were all over the runways for the Spring/Summer 2011 shows.

 

Bars to Explore: The Globe

Esquire named The Globe, located in downtown Athens, as one of the best bars in the country in 2007. Serving traditional pub food and offering a variety of domestic and foreign brews, The Globe is not to be missed. Check it out if you are looking for a more laid-back experience.
